Songs in the Shade of the Cashew Coconut Trees
Songs in the Shade of the Cashew Coconut Trees is our new musical picture book that will be released October 1st, 2019! It includes a diverse musical selection from the African continent and Caribbean islands, all collected by Nathalie Soussana and arranged by Jean-Christophe Hoarau. Stories about children playing in the schoolyard at recess, sisters braiding each other’s hair at the beach, and parents dancing and singing late into the night are depicted with vibrant colour and energy through the brush strokes of artist Judith Gueyfier.
This stunning musical storybook won the Parents’ Choice Gold Award in the Audio Book category! Parents’ Choice selected this collection for its “lushly colored, detailed illustrations” and its “well-produced tracks [that] are as varied as a waltzing lullaby (Ninância), a tender reminiscence of a grandmother’s stories (Gongon), both from Cape Verde; [and] a lively story song, Hormiguita retozona from Cuba about a little ant who learns that there is a time for play and a time for helping others.”
